Description

I created an animation to highlight the critical challenges in acquiring fine needle aspiration (FNA) samples for breast cancer diagnosis in Sub-Saharan Africa. The animation illustrates how improving the FNA procedure, particularly through innovative needle designs and enhanced training, can significantly increase sample adequacy rates in peripheral health centers.

Storyboard sketches made in Procreate

Planning the Animation

With the aid of the Endo-Breast team, I researched the topic and distilled their key points into a concise 200-word script.

I then used Procreate to create sketches for a timed storyboard. This storyboard allowed me to share my plans for the visuals, transitions, and timing for the animation.

Models made in Cinema4D

Making the Models

I created most of the assets for this animation through box modeling and texturing in Cinema 4D. I animated each component in 3D and then used the classic Cinema 4D render engine to export stylized clips with the “Toon” renderer. Finally, I composited the footage in After Effects.
